A few days ago I posted an article about the upcoming Local Author Event that is scheduled for this coming Saturday at the public library located at 100 West Broadway in Columbia, Missouri.

Saturday, April 19
10 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
2-4 p.m.

Celebrate Local Authors Day at the
Columbia Public Library by attending
panel discussions with some of our best
local writers and publicists.
All portions of the event are open to the
public. There is no charge to participate.

Author Panel (Friends Room)
Panel: Keija Parssinen, Susan Finlay, Liz Schulte,
Marlene Lee, Eric Praschan, Matthew Murrie
and Carolyn Mulford.

10-11 a.m.
Authors will share their tips and insights about
the writing process, as well as their experiences
with the publishing process, using a traditional
or independent model, editing, cover design, etc.

11-11:15 a.m.
Break for refreshments

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Get tips on marketing and promotion, use of
social media, book promotion websites and
advertising, plus ways to connect with other
authors and readers.

Break-out Sessions
2-2:30 p.m.
Session 1 (Virginia Young Room, second floor)
Author Marlene Lee will share tips for successful
book readings. Hear short readings from
established and new authors.
Session 2 (Children’s Program Room, first floor)
Julie Barnett will talk about writing for children,
working with an illustrator and using crowdsourcing
for funding.

Open Book Fair (Friends Room)
2-4 p.m.
Visit with published authors and independent
publishers. Pick up information and purchase
books from local authors.
